Councilman Joseph V. Romano
History and Evaluation of the Candidate
Joseph (Joe) V. Romano is a real estate broker who has been serving on the Sterling Heights City Council for over 18 years. He served as the Mayor Pro-Tem for several terms, losing that post to now-Mayor Michael C. Taylor in 2011. Prior to his service on Council, Mr. Romano also served on several of the city’s volunteer boards and commissions.
Joe Romano is not given to political correctness, and occasionally some of the things he says on camera make me cringe. He is brutally honest — sometimes maybe a bit too honest — and he does not mince words. I firmly believe the man would rather lose an election than say something other than exactly what he felt and believed, so it is fascinating that his approach has been rewarded with such longevity. Do not mistake his bluntness for a lack of sophistication, however; under the regular guy persona is a shrewd and capable negotiator.
As the second-longest serving member of council and a 40-year resident of the city, there isn’t much that goes on in Sterling Heights’ development that Mr. Romano has not had a hand in. He is an asset to the council, and provides an important, city elder’s perspective that helps to mentor the more junior members on council. He is a proponent of achieving compromise and seeks win-win solutions to problems. His personal political views run toward the conservative.
I am recommending that you vote for Joseph V. Romano on November 3, 2015.
