Candidate Paul Smith
History and Evaluation of the Candidate
Paul Smith, long known to readers of this blog, is the disgraced former City Council member who served from 2011 to 2013. During his tenure on council, he was formally asked to resign his post by a 6/1 vote of the council after his and his wife’s appearance at a 2009 Tea Party rally carrying signs depicting the gruesome deaths of former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, Senator Nancy Pelosi, and President Barack Obama came to light. Replete with racist, homophobic and xenophobic slurs, Mr. Smith’s signs provoked an investigation by the U.S. Secret Service as well as stories by local television news stations. Mr. Smith, when interviewed by one TV station, chose to double-down on the content of the signs by claiming they depicted a just treatment of the President given the fact that he was a “traitor.”
Since I have covered Mr. Smith’s many misadventures in local politics in great detail on this blog, I won’t rehash every single incident here. Suffice it to say that his stated intentions to essentially dismantle the city’s government and emergency services contraindicate his election to the Mayor’s seat. Quite frankly, all one needs to do is “Google” Paul Smith and virtually any reasonable voter will find ample reason to vote for his opponent, Michael Taylor.
I am recommending you NOT vote for Paul Smith on November 3, 2015.
